White Tower Thessaloniki,Greece

The White Tower is a defensive structure dated to the 15th century. Later, it was used as a guard's quarters by the Janissaries (Turk Royal Army)  and as a prison for those who were convicted to death. It was built on the place where an older, Byzantine tower once stood. This Byzantine tower connected the east wall of the fortification of Thessalonike (the part preserved today) with the sea wall, which was demolished in 1866.

The museum in the White Tower contains various collections of sculptures, frescoes, fragments of mosaic floors and wall mosaics, icons, coins, inscriptions, pottery, glass and metal items.

Pedestrian's Street Belgrade, Serbia

The commercial and cultural centre of the city is along Kneza Mihaila  , the pedestrian street dedicated to Prince Michael, the first ruler of a fully independent Serbia.Knez Mihailova is a wide pedestrian street in downtown Belgrade. Along this street you can peek in its many bookstores, small shops, or galleries. You can also relax in the many outdoor caffe's and listen to street music. At night, the street comes alive with scores of pedestrians, leisurely strolling along the wide street. This is a place for families, full of children, but also of young couples; a place to taste the typical rostili , that is grill  with a pivo (beer), and to spend an evening talking with friends. The few tourists now visiting Belgrade mix with the local people, here more than everywhere else in the city.

The city takes on a Byzantine character which it has maintained to the present day, with more (and more significant) Byzantine monuments than any other city in Europe. 1430 Thessaloniki is conqured by the Turks. After a period of economic and cultural stagnation, the city begins to exploit the reforming tendencies of the Ottoman Empire and becomes once again a commercial and cultural beacon for the peoples of the Balkans. 1912 Thessaloniki is gained back by the Greek army on the feast day of its patron saint, Aghios Dimitrios. It soon enters a new period of rapid economic and cultural growth. Now Thessaloniki is one of the major metropolitan centres in the Mediterranean basin.

The mosque has a nice tube and the roof is made of lead. The Oak tree in the background is also as old as the mosque.
